I am most captivated when an author is able to marry the mechanics of writing and the art of the story - in this instance Bonita LeFlore has definitely succeeded. Of course, the intersection of the art of writing and visual art did not go unnoticed by this reader. I enjoyed the genealogical framework of the story, the focus on the women of the family, and the backdrop of the Wollstonecraft classic text. It is difficult for me to choose one adjective to describe the mood of the book - I found it hopeful, nostalgic, suspenseful, and thoughtful all at once. I look forward to recommending it to my fellow readers. The complex weaving of family and individual stories was achieved with respect and grace.

This book left me feeling like the story was not adequately or appropriately wrapped up. While I initially enjoyed the writer's style the story did not really flow. I would not recommend this book to other readers.
I loved the way that this book traveled backward through the women of the light family. It was completely captivating! Just as you are truly falling in love with one of the characters, you are switching to her mother. It truly keeps you on your toes. I'd have easily read this in one sitting had I and my children not been sick. This is definitely one that I will recommend to others.
Didn't like it. Hard to follow, too fragmented.
Awful book. Poorly written, timeline is wacky.
The different generations is an interesting idea but thought it was done at the expense of finishing each individual story. If that was the idea- I was not a fan.
I have bought every book published by someone I know, and this honestly was one I could not put down! A story fluidly woven through time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a very good read!
